  Are you comfortable with voting now?

  i admit i have never voted (shame), the last couple of years i have decided to vote but when the time comes i back out.

  i like having the freedom to choose whether to vote or not but i never know who to vote on the day that counts and then i feel uncomfortable at the last minute.. how about you?

  Brummie, I'm registered as a Democrat but I view myself now as an independent. I vote for who I think is good for the job. I voted for the first time in the 2000 presidential election for Gore, then for Hillary as Senator for New York - I cheered when she won and most recently for who would be Governor of Florida (voted against Jebbie) The first time felt like an out of body experience. It was just strange. The second time around, I felt like an old pro and I've enjoyed it ever since. (I actually voted twice while an active JW!) The way I look at it, people died for my right to vote, so I do it with pride. - V Sky

  Scully that was great! Sorry you had such a hard time of it. I would tell elders to: Get a life! Mind their own business, get an education (in some cases high school would have helped!), I wanna know if some of them have ever had an orgasm 'cause in some cases I can't even imagine, they're so stiff and stuffy. I would ask do they really believe some of the Bull Sh#@ they say from the platform? Do they ever feel sad for hurting people? Judging people? and cutting people off from their families? God appointed them to do that? I don't think so. - Victorian Sky

  i know it's a painful subject for some.

  I empathize with all of you, especially Gadget! Sorry about your girlfriend, I can't believe she would prefer if you cheated, how warped is that? I know exactly what those elders are telling her. That she's sooo faithful and that she's sacrificing for Jehovah and that God will provide her with a mate, just pioneer! Just study, meetings, service! Unbelievable. I'm so sorry you've been hurt. Trust me, she'll regret it and by the time she does, you'll be married to someone who loves you unconditionally. - Victorian Sky

  what is the stupidest thing a jw ever told you?

  we all know that they say a lot of stupid things, but what really topped the cake?.

  for me, it was an elder telling me i was progressing really well when my meeting attendance was down and my field service hours were slipping.

  I've got a few. A sister was being beaten by her husband who was in 'good standing' the elders and the congregation were divided over it. Half thought she should be longsuffering and let him continue beating the hell out of her and the other half were like 'leave his sorry ass'. Well I was of the later camp and out in service one day a group of sisters and I got into an argument over the case. I said 'He's put her in the hospital how many times now? Her life is in danger, Jehovah would understand if she left" This pompous pioneer said 'She took a vow and she must stick to her husband, even if he kills her she'll be resurrected for her faithfulness!" Can you imagine? Another dumb thing was when I was doing the fade a sister said to me "Even if you commit murder, don't miss the meetings!" Say what! While I was in college an elder with a high school diploma called all college grads 'Educated idiots' from the platform. Nice, real nice. The top of my dumb list was a sister who told me that I shouldn't be sad about the people who died on 9/11 because now they'll make it into the new system when they're resurrected!' How sick are these people? - Victorian Sky

  Odrade, you went through hell! But I'm so happy for you now. Amazing your parents tried to break up your relationship before your wedding, what did they want you to be? Lonely and bitter like so many single sisters? Glad you took a stand against the maddness. - V Sky

  Hi all, just wondering how many have given up the man or woman they love for the borg? I know it's a painful subject for some. I gave up my first love when I was studying. Was told I couldn't get bapitzed unless I did and we weren't even sleeping together! I was a teenager at the time, so who's to say it would have worked out anyway but I do regret hurting him over religious differences. I was told by my study conductor that loyalty to Jehovah meant I had to cut off all ties with him. We were unevenly yoked and marry only in the lord and so forth. I was told by an elder to throw away any evidence of the relationship! I was young so I did. Including his pictures and love letters. Then I was praised for months from the platform for my obedience and faithfulness even though I had a broken heart at the time. I've since gotten over it but I was wondering how many did the same thing and how do you feel about your decision today?

  Dear Meg,

  The Governing Body (small group of men at the Brooklyn Headquarters) make the dotrinal changes that affect the lives of millions of Witnesses. Gamaliel explained the differences between JW's and Christianity very well. JW's do believe that Jesus is really Michael, the Archangel, and that Jesus is the son of God but not God himself. The dotrine changes are too many to list here, but the ones that have put lives at risk are the reversal on organ transplants, vaccinations and the present blood transfusion ban. Also a dotrinal policy that endangers family ties is the disfellowshipping arrangment which is shunning the JW who leaves the organization - many lose their entire family and the only friends they've ever known - cruel and terrible. It happened to my mom and I was pressured not to talk to her, can you imagine? JW's can't vote, serve in the military, have sex before marriage and even after marriage can only have it in certain positions (I kid you not) no holidays including birthdays. Must attend 5 meetings a week, go out in the preaching work and report the hours you spend each month, the list of rules goes on and on. For me, christianity brought freedom. - Victorian Sky

  just curious.

  i went to the 3rd church that i've ever stepped foot into after leaving the borg 3 years ago.

  so, as i'm standing there (in the front row, i might add) for the musical worship portion of the service.. i felt like a big idiot.

  Dear Candlestick, I can totally relate! I went to church for the first time last Sunday. There was a band with drums, guitars, piano and a choir. It was fascinating to listen to them. First of all, they could actually sing unlike myself and many dubs who mumbled through the songs. I too enjoyed the church service I went to but I couldn't help but compare it to the borg which is all I've ever known. I was pleasantly surprised at how warm and welcoming the people were and the atmosphere was light & free, no pressure, no rules. As for the kingdom melodies, yeah, I must admit, I find myself humming them every once in a while. I had a few memorized so the words come back easily. I loved "Kiss the Son" especially the bit about "Jehovah's sword and Gideons". Also "Walking in Integrity". When I was active, I remember saying to my friend, 'I wish we were one of those jumping churches' because I love the sound of choirs, not the gospel screamers but the choirs in harmony. The singing in the KH sounded so depressing at times, like none of us were truly alive. - Victorian Sky
